Flu Season Approaches

Posted on October 3rd, 2018

This year, three types of flu vaccine will be on offer in the flu programme. This will benefit patients by ensuring that they have the most suitable vaccine that gives them the best protection against flu.

The three vaccines available are;
1. Adjuvanated trivalent flu vaccine (aTIV) – which has been licensed for people over 65.
2. Quadrivalent vaccine (QIV)- Recommended for children aged from 6 months to 2 years and in adults from 18 years to less than 65
3. Live attenuated influenza vaccine (LAIV)- This is a nasal spray and is intended for children and young people aged between 2 and 18 years.

How to prevent flu
A flu vaccine reduces the risk of catching flu, as well as spreading it to others. It is more effective to get the vaccine before the start of the flu season  which usually occurs between December and  March.

As in previous years we will be running dedicated Saturday Flu clinics here at Kingswood and look forward to seeing you on one of the two following days between 08:30 – 15:30:
